The orb and what it does
Orbs come in two kinds, a constant one and a pulsing one.
The orb in R.E.P.O. is an item with settings of its own: the game gives it two modes, a radius, a colour, its own sounds, and a habit of absorbing valuables.

In play
The orb is an item with a mode. The game sorts orbs into two kinds, a constant one and a pulsing one, which is why two orbs can behave differently rather than being one object.
It has a radius. The orb carries a reach of its own, so what it affects is a distance rather than a point.
It has an icon and a state of its own. The orb keeps a picture for itself and a flag for whether it is active, alongside its own kind, which is why it can be shown in a list apart from the rest of the loot.
It is coloured. The orb keeps colour presets and a colour of its own, which is why it can be told apart at a glance.
It is battery-powered. The orb drains a battery at a rate of its own, so it is one of the items that makes charge worth carrying.
It has its own sounds. Starting, shutting down and its idle loop each have a sound, so you can hear its state without looking at it.
It absorbs valuables. There is a behaviour for a valuable being absorbed, with its own duration and the value it adds, which is why the orb is a way of collecting rather than only a tool.
Roaches orbit it. There is a roach orbit behaviour with its own radius, rotation speed and noise, which is why the orb has company as well as function.
The roaches are their own small system. One that is smashed has a prefab and a squash sound, and the orbit keeps a second noise scale and speed along with a loop, which is why the swarm can sound alive rather than being decoration.
What this entry does not tell you: how far the orb reaches, how much it absorbs, or how long its battery lasts. We have not verified those numbers, so we do not print them.
