Protecting a haul in the valuables box
How to use the valuables box in R.E.P.O. as protection rather than as another thing to carry, while monsters whose job is to attack loot are around.

Before you start
- A valuables box
- Valuables worth protecting
- A level with monsters that go for loot
Steps
- Start from what the level actually contains rather than from what you found.
the level decides which valuables are present to protect - Assume something in the level is aimed at your loot, not at you.
a monster exists whose job is to throw something at valuables - Separate the explosive thrower from the loot thrower in your head.
another monster throws explosives at the crew rather than at the valuables - Use the fixed grab points as anchors when you are moving a haul.
objects that can be grabbed but do not move exist in the level - Put the haul in the box built to hold valuables rather than piling it loose.
the box has a part that checks what is inside it and a point where valuables are placed - Know the box has a limit before you count on it.
the box carries a value limit - Open and close it deliberately rather than leaving it open.
it opens and closes with curves of its own, a duration and a sound for each - Read the box's own screen rather than guessing what is inside.
it answers on a text screen with an animator that moves through a starting, a middle and an ending position
Common mistakes
- Treating the loot thrower and the bomb thrower as the same threat.
- Leaving valuables loose beside a fixed grab point instead of in the box.
- Filling the box past what it will hold and expecting the rest to be protected.
- Reading your own memory instead of the box's screen.
