Valuables you can actually use
Which valuables in R.E.P.O. are devices rather than ornaments, and what each of them does: fuel timers, a blade, talking parts, a glow curve and a duck that explodes.
Applies to
0.4.0, read from the copy of the game this site was built from (see the sources page)
Before you start
- A crew that knows which of you is holding the device
- A hand free to drop something that starts behaving badly
- A way to reach the extractor without passing the rest of the crew
Steps
- Expect some of what you pick up to be a device rather than an ornament.
the game files a flamethrower, an extinguisher, a jackhammer, an ice saw and a barrel as valuables of their own - Check the fuel before you rely on a device you found.
the flamethrower and the extinguisher keep a fuel timer, a trigger and a sound for running empty - Do not stand behind a jackhammer you have started.
it has start, end and looping sounds with an impact loop, a collider, and particles for dirt and dust - Treat the ice saw and the barrel as traps as much as loot.
both are traps with triggered and active states and a timer, and the saw keeps a blade with its own curve and speed and a collider that hurts - Listen to a valuable that talks, because talking is what it is doing.
the teeth bot has two transforms for talking and spring limbs, and the eye valuable has an eye transform with a rotation threshold - Expect a power crystal to light up on a curve of its own.
it has a centre, a crystal object, a glow curve and a light - Read the game's own naming rather than the shape when you are deciding what counts as loot.
whether an object counts as loot is named by the game rather than decided by how it looks - Do not squeeze a rubber duck you intend to sell.
the duck has a quack, a squeak and a loop, and an explosion with a sound heard across the level
Common mistakes
- Treating a flamethrower or a jackhammer as a plain valuable and finding out what it does in your hands.
- Carrying an ice saw or a barrel without expecting it to go off.
- Deciding what is loot from its shape rather than from what the game calls it.
- Squeezing the duck to hear it quack while the crew is standing around you.
