The runner and what bursts out of it

It keeps a state, an animator and a head on a spring with a source and a target.

The runner is a monster that falls apart as it is hit: the game gives it a head on a spring, a turning body, and two sizes of hay with pieces thrown both far and short when it comes apart.

What the game establishes

In play

The runner keeps a state and an animator of its own, and its head sits on a spring with a source and a target, so the head follows the body rather than being welded to it.

Its whole body turns on a rotation spring. That is why it can spin to face a player with some weight behind the movement instead of snapping to a new direction.

What comes out of it is named in the game's own files as hay. There are two sizes of hay particle and two sets of pieces, one thrown far and one thrown short, so the monster coming apart is a small event with several kinds of debris rather than one puff.

It has feet of its own and a collider for being hurt. The feet matter because the runner is the monster that closes distance on foot, so where its feet are is what the game uses to move it.

Because the parts are separate, the same monster can be hit and keep going while it is shedding material, which is the difference between a runner and a monster that simply dies.

The image beside this entry is the game's own: the colour texture of the runner.

What this entry does not tell you: how fast it moves, how much damage it does, or how many hits it takes. We have not verified those numbers, so we do not print them.
