The upgrades you find and buy
An upgrade is an item in the game rather than a value on the player.
Upgrades in R.E.P.O. are individual items rather than a list of numbers: the game keeps each one as an object with a display name, its own artwork, and a rule for whether it upgrades the player or the gear.

In play
An upgrade is an item. The game keeps each one as an object of its own rather than as a value on your character, which is why an upgrade is something you find or buy and then apply.
Each one has a name to show. Upgrades carry a display name and a localised version of it, so the game can present one in your language without renaming the object behind it.
They are not all the same kind. An upgrade carries a flag for whether it improves the player or the equipment, which is why some of them change what you can do and others change what you are holding.
They come with a colour. An upgrade carries a colour preset of its own, so an upgrade is visually identified rather than all of them looking alike.
Placed and remembered. The game caches upgrades with their position and rotation, which is why an upgrade stand can be stocked and then saved the way it was left.
Some of them are specific. There are upgrades that exist to change one particular ability rather than a general statistic, which is why the upgrade stand offers more than a length and a width.
What this entry does not tell you: what any upgrade costs, how much it improves anything, or how many there are. We have not verified those numbers, so we do not print them.
