Staying in touch with the crew
A player has a chat box state of its own in the game.
R.E.P.O. expects a crew to split up, so talking is part of the equipment: the game gives a player a chat box of its own and provides a walkie-talkie as a carried item.
What the game establishes
- A player has a chat box state of its own in the game. (checked against the game's own files)
- A walkie-talkie is a carried item rather than a built-in ability. (checked against the game's own files)
- The build names its chat manager and a local chat object, along with a push-to-talk button. (checked against the game's own files)
- Chat is a client of its own, with a channel, a prompt and a text field. (checked against the game's own files)
- Voice has a volume slider for how close you are and a whisper voice of its own. (checked against the game's own files)
In play
Talking is something the game models per player rather than treating as an outside-the-game concern, which is why a player has a chat state at all.
Distance still matters: a walkie-talkie is a carried item, so a crew that left it behind is a crew that cannot call for help.
Because loot and gear are individual carried items, the choice between one more valuable and a way to talk is a real trade.
What this entry does not tell you: the range of a walkie-talkie or how many channels exist. We have not verified those numbers, so we do not print them.
